By the looks of my blog, it comes as no surprise that, well…I like birds. The idea of having a nature, bird, outdoors themed wedding only seemed suitable considering the fact that our ceremony would be held outside and on a farm. While flipping through a Martha Stewart Weddings magazine, I came across the idea of making bird nest boutineers.
Not only was this a cheaper way to go, I knew that I would have a lot of fun making them and they would look absolutely adorable against the black fabric worn by the men. I headed to Michael’s Crafts Store and picked up the essentials
1) a bag of honey colored excelsior (wood wool)
2) a branch of faux pink berries
3) a bag of fall colored leaves (small)
4) hot glue sticks
5) clasping pins
6) head out to your backyard and gather small “y” shaped branches to place the nest on
Once you have your materials, take the excelsior to gather and shape it into a bird nest shape. This material binds together well and allows for easy shaping. To keep it intact, put a little hot glue in the middle and use a stick or unsharpened pencil to press it down. Add three berries (like little eggs) and a small leaf to the center of the nest. Attach leaves to the underside of the nest allowing them to peak out the sides. Place the nest in the center of the “y” shaped branch and hot glue it on. Also using the hot glue, attach the pin on the back side of the branch.
Pin those little nests on the suits of your dashing men and send them right down the isle.
